Travelling Fellowship

Broaden and enhance your professional practice. The Travelling Fellowship is a unique initiative offering visual artists from the Clarence Valley the opportunity to broaden and enhance their professional practice. Two Fellowships valued at $2,500 each are available to support artists to take part in residencies, attend visual arts events and conferences, or undertake research. The 2025 Travelling Fellowship is supported by the Yulgilbar Foundation.

Selection Process

  • Applications will be reviewed by a selection panel comprising a representative of Grafton Regional Gallery, an independent arts professional, and a previous recipient of a Travelling Fellowship.
  • Applications will be assessed on how the proposed activity will benefit artistic practice, career, or development.
  • Applicants will be notified of assessment outcome within six (6) weeks of closing date.

Funding

Funding can be used to undertake one or more of the following activities within Australia:

  • a residency, internship or mentorship (a planned program with an arts organisation).
  • self-initiated research and development which may include establishing networks, researching current practices, and engaging with exhibition programs.
  • attending an arts related conference or symposium within Australia.

Requirements

  • Fellowships must be completed by 30 June 2026.
  • Fellowship recipients will be required to submit an artistic report within four weeks of completion of Fellowship activity/s.
  • Fellowship recipients, activities, and outcomes will be promoted via GRG social media channels, newsletters, and local media outlets. 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Applications are open to artists residing in the Clarence Valley local Government area.
  • Open to all artists at all stages of their careers.
  • Applicants must be a practicing visual artist.
  • Employees of Clarence Valley Council are not eligible to apply.
  • The Travelling Fellowship must be completed by 30 June 2026.
  • An artistic report is to be submitted to the Gallery within four weeks of the conclusion of Fellowship activities.
  • Fellowship recipients agree to GRG publicising Fellowship recipients, activities, and outcomes via social media, print and broadcast platforms.
  • Travel may only take place in Australia. International travel will not be funded.
  • A letter of support will be required from any art organisation that has a role in the project.
  • The Gallery takes no responsibility for insurance.
  • The artists are responsible for their own insurance and for all administration relating to the activity.
  • No additional funds for this project will be provided.
  • Proof of conference / symposium attendance will be required if this activity is undertaken.
  • Applications must be discussed with Referees prior to submission. Referees will not be contacted without permission of Applicant.
  • Late or incomplete proposals will not be accepted.

Selection for a Travelling Residency does not guarantee any exhibition, collection, or program outcome with Grafton Regional Gallery.
