Clarence Artist Projects (CAP) is an initiative of Grafton Regional Gallery (GRG) aimed at providing opportunities for artists, curators, and creative practitioners living in the Clarence Valley through residency, exhibition, skills development, and mentorship opportunities.

CAP: Skills Development

GRG partners with a range of industry professionals and networks to deliver a series of presentations and workshops providing creative practitioners from the Clarence Valley with skills development in a range of areas including marketing and promotion, digital engagement, grant writing and fundraising, proposals and presentation, and artmaking.
A limited number of bursaries will be available to support emerging and local artists to participate in workshops and professional development opportunities. Details coming soon.

CAP: Exhibitions

An annual call-out for local artists, curators, creative practitioners, arts collectives, and community groups to pitch a project to the team at GRG. Artists, curators, and creative practitioners based in the Clarence Valley LGA are eligible to apply. We are looking for proposals that represent excellence in contemporary visual arts practice, address current community themes and concerns, and engage audiences from across the region and beyond.
We encourage Gallery based presentations as well as projects that might utilise other spaces and places across the Clarence Valley. It is recommended that proposals are discussed with gallery staff prior to submission. Details coming soon.

CAP: Creative Economy

GRG is committed to supporting the local creative economy through sales and commissioning opportunities for artists and artisans.
Open Door Gallery: One of Grafton’s most beautiful and prestigious structures, historic Prentice House sits at the entry of the Grafton Regional Gallery precinct and houses the GRG Store, CVC Visitor Information Centre, Artist Cottage, Café and Open Door Gallery space. Artists from the Clarence Valley will be invited to submit applications for selling exhibitions in the Prentice House Gallery via an annual call-out for proposals. Open Door Gallery exhibitions are open to all artists at all stages of their careers.
GRG Store: The GRG Store showcases a range of wares by local creatives including ceramics, jewellery, cards, homewares.
Workshops and Presenters: GRG is always on the lookout for artists and presenters to facilitate workshops, education programs, and public programs.

CAP: Artists in Residence

The Grafton Regional Gallery Artist Cottage is a fully equipped studio apartment located in historic Prentice House. Clarence Valley artists will have the opportunity to undertake a two-week residency on site, with access to the GRG Art Studio. Applications will be made following an annual open call-out. Successful artists and creative practitioners will demonstrate a clear rationale for their stay. The residency may represent an opportunity to focus on the development of new work, research for a curatorial or creative project, or time out from work commitments to focus on artistic practice.
CAP Residencies will be subsidised through the provision of significantly reduced accommodation fees. Where possible, GRG will offer residencies without charge. Artists must supply all artmaking materials, catering, and travel requirements.
Up to three (3) CAP Residencies may be provided per annum.  Details coming soon.

CAP: Yugilbar Travelling Fellowship

The Yugilbar Travelling Fellowship is a unique initiative offering visual artists from the Clarence Valley the opportunity to broaden and enhance their professional practice. The Fellowship, valued at $5,000, supports artists to take part in residencies, attend visual arts events and conferences, or undertake research.
