Doris O'Grady: Flowers from the collection
Showcasing a selection of the botanical works of Doris O'Grady.
A significant part of the Gallery’s O’Grady Collection is made up of botanical drawings and watercolours by Doris O’Grady (1902–1994).
The care with which she painted and identified so many specimens shows the passion she had for both her painting and the natural environment surrounding her. To ensure her accuracy in identifying the plants she was painting, she often sent samples to the Botanic Gardens in Sydney for positive identification. The locations and the time of year the samples were taken were regularly recorded.
This exhibition contains a small selection from over 1000 botanical works donated to the gallery by Doris in 1988.
