Indigenous Artworks from the Collection
Celebrating the diversity of Indigenous artworks held in the Gallery collection.
This exhibition presents a wide range of artworks created by Aboriginal artists from the desert country of Ernabella, the remote Tiwi Islands of the Northern Territory to the coastal districts of the Clarence Valley. Three dimensional sculptural works such as woven baskets, ceramic vases and plates will be on show alongside paintings and prints.
Clarence Valley visitors to the Gallery will recognise a number of local artists in the works on show. South Grafton based Gumbayngirr and Bundjalung artist Deborah Taylor’s paintings will feature, as well as Yaegl artist Frances Belle Parker’s acquisition Ours from the 2015 CVIAA.
Northern Rivers artist Penny Evans the winner of the 2015 CVIAA popular work constructed of ceramics, wood, chain and thread titled Out of Sight, Out of Mind features in the exhibition as well as a painting on hessian titled 4 julum by another well known Northern Rivers artist Digby Moran.
