The Grafton Regional Gallery opened in 1988 and is a cultural service of the Clarence Valley Council supported by the New South Wales Ministry for the Arts NSW and other funding bodies. The Gallery aims to be an accessible centre of excellence in the visual arts for the residents of and visitors to the Clarence Valley and to promote understanding and development of the visual arts. The Gallery has a permanent collection of over 1300 works which, through an active acquisition policy of purchase, donation and gifting, is steadily growing. The collection consists of the following ten collections-
The Gallery maintains and conserves the works in the collections, curates exhibitions for display in the region and for touring throughout Australia and publishes catalogues and books on the collections. The collections are displayed throughout council buildings in the Clarence Valley. Collection artworks are loaned to other galleries and museums, leased to businesses and institutions and displayed in the outreach exhibition and education programs.
